| Gun
Raven is yet another shooter, with all the standard bells and
whistles. You move around in two directions and fire up the screen
at the enemies. This is one of those shooter games that could
be quite good if it had a decent gimmick, or something to set
it appart from the crowd, but unfortunately it doesn't. I won't
go into to detail about the mechanics of the game play because
it all the bog standard stuff, but I will elobrate on its good
points and its flaws.
Gun
Raven suffers from it almost amateur feel to it, the graphics
and sound are pretty poor by today's standards, even for an independant
shooter game. That said it does have a certain old school arcade
charm to it, which is mainly down the retro sound effects. The
enemies do have some nice, interesting movement patterns, and
killing things is rewarding (which is a lot more than can be said
for most of the other billion shooters out there). There are also
some nice score bouses which adds a little bit of a goal to the
game. The bosses in Gun Raven are quite boring, they pretty much
just stay pefectly still and shoot random things at you, with
no real pattern to their firing. Most galaga games at least have
nice bosses!
At
the end of the day Gun Raven is a shooter you might want if you
have already completed the very best of them (Alien Shooter, Ultra
Assault, Star Monkey, Airstrike etc), but to the average gamer
there is much better on offer.
Score:
5/10
